New Vintage-Country Reading Corner - A Before and After!

It's that time of year!  Time for a Fall Tour of my Country Farmhouse!
This (hopefully) will be one of many posts
taking you thru the many places
I decorated for the church picnic this past weekend.
I love to decorate for fall,
my house is perfect because I use fall colors all year.

Today I am sharing a project I did just before my company came out.
I had this cute little corner of my office....
That was looking a little plain to me....
I loved my rescued rocking chair I got at a yard sale for $10 a few years ago.
And the vintage floral was my color inspiration....
So here is my after!

Yes, it is much better.
I moved my Banner Rotary Wash Machine to this side of the room.
I like it much better there.  I added an ottoman (which I will recover soon).
I think the fabric is a bit bright for this room, but I have all winter to sew.
These were just pillows I had on hand.
But my favorite addition is the shelf!
I had these lovely blue corbels in the basement.
It took me forever to find them... but I put it together and hung it myself!
Love the ornate design and the color is perfect.
I have been adding more blue to my house this year.
On top went some lovely vintage laces... a birdhouse... and several vintage photos.
The three girls is my favorite.
A cheese box, vintage wire basket and some greenery.
Everything was things I had around the house...
But I added more lace and photos....
Even the lampshade got a bit more dolled up.
So it will be fun to see what I do with the ottoman.
Fabric shopping is so much fun!

A Dream Came True--- And His Name is Reno!

Today a dream of mine came true...
After 20 years of wishing for another horse....
I am now the new momma to this beautiful baby named Reno.
He is a little over 16 hands tall and a registered Quarter Horse.
He is a beautiful chestnut with a blaze and two stockings.
He belongs to a neighbor and we are just so happy to be getting him.
We will be fencing off most of my back yard for a horse pasture.
So now along with a beautiful view of the lake...
I will have my beautiful boy grazing on the hill.
Hope to have him moved by early November.
Until then he is just a four wheeler ride away.
The girls and I just love him...
but the most surprising is how much my husband is enjoying him.

He is just one of the many blessing in my life right now.
I am still going strong in my diet... at -50 pounds now!
I can't wait to add riding to my cardio ;)

Will post more pics this week.
So busy, but it is all good stuff!

Ode To The Ole Marigold!

Every year about this time I get comments on the big splash of orange at my back door.
They'll say... "Your orange mums are so pretty and they have been blooming for so long!"
But mums they are not... they are old fashioned orange marigolds... and they are fantastic.
They bloom for three months, but peak this time of year... Perfect for Fall.
Best thing is... they are free.  I just sprinkle seed directly onto the soil wherever I want them.
The seeds are ready right now... if you'd like a start stop in this month.

I love it when simple things work---- Don't you?

Summer Has Not Left Us Yet...

Welcome friends and neighbors to our little place in the country!
Today we are looking at the butterfly garden overlooking the backyard and lake.
This has been a beautiful summer here at the lake.
My color is holding on... saying it is not quite fall yet!
A few daylilies and hydrangeas are reblooming.
And the late crepe myrtles are in full bloom.
I have been cutting back and cleaning up quite a bit.
And yesterday started cuttings of hydrangeas, weigelas, boxwoods and  other evergreens.
I just removed the lower leaves and poked them into some of my existing planters.
I will just leave them alone and let them winter outside under the deck.
I may get lucky and have a few free shrubs come next year!
I have been doing this for years, September is a good time to try them.
Just snip away... Good Luck!

Favorite Flowers.... Limelight Hydrangea

Another beautiful day in the garden!
It has been just wonderful this week.
Perfect summer days... and cool mornings that feel like Fall!
Today I wanted to share my Limelight Hydrangea blooms...
One of my favorite all time shrubs.
It is such a beauty!
As you can see it takes center stage.
It blooms from green to cream to white to a soft pink with taupe.
What a show every summer and fall!
Best of all... no flops!
It is a paniculata... or woody stemmed hydrangea.
So it stands tall and pretty, year after year!

Happy Gardening...Brooke
