New Short Hair and a Diet Update...

It's a girl thing... that is all I can say... I took the plunge and got about 5 inches cut off my hair this week.
Here is a before... It was just too hot... too much...
and I was sick of always having clips and ties in it.
I have to laugh at the pictures at the top of this post.
I have not mastered the self photo.... lol.
That must be a teen-girl thing.
My kids take any pics of me.  And then I delete 99% of them.
But anyway, it is short... and I love it.
I can garden and workout and not have to worry about it.
It grows so fast, who know how long I will keep it this way...
but since it is in the 90's and HUMID... this is perfect.

So about the diet journey.... I have an update.
Went to the appointment with my new personal trainer last week.
She did all my bloodwork and it was all good.
I am glad, I had no idea really.
 Sugar, cholesterol...everything was normal.
I weighed a pound less there than at home, that is good to know.
She measured every square inch of me... really...
it took like 30 minutes with the fat pincher... lol.
I don't know what they call that thing they measure with.. but uuugh... not my favorite.
Then she did a stress test of exercises to see my ability.

Crunches, which I already do...
pushups... they suck... but I did okay... will work on that...
and then they had a platform step about 12 inches tall,
higher than a normal step and you did that as fast as you can for 3 minutes.
I thought "I can do this no problem!" I do an hour on the elliptical, this will be easy... NOT!
90 seconds on the left leg and 90 on the right and my heart was RACING.
But I finished strong and she saw how long it took my heartrate to go back to normal.
Wow, that really surprised me.

So what did I do?
I took apart an old ottoman and now I have a step too at home...
been doing it every day.
Wow was my calves sore after the first day... but I have been doing 100 steps per leg since.
Still walking, but it is so darn hot.
Swimming is nice, but I don't think I have been burning the calories I need to.

Hubby is off work this week
and we have been snacking and eating bigger meals than normal.
With the girls home it seems I am always in the kitchen.
My salads for supper have been on hold.
And with that I am up about 2 pounds.
But I know I will get it back off next week when he goes back to work.

Saturday will be the 20th and it is my 6 month mark.
I will be near to 45 pounds gone in 180 days.
That is awesome in my book.
I do not see it as a race.
I am just living every day as healthy as I can.
There have been days I have not been able to exercise and eat right.
But they are few and far between.
I am giving myself 18 months, 2 years if I need to.
But right now I am just happy with my knee and legs feeling so much better, stronger...
more energy and comfortable.

So in 4 days I am going back for my first one-on-one workout.
This scares the shit out of me.
But I want to have the trainer, Jennifer, show me what she thinks will help.
I have never been a jump around kind of person.
I like to have both feet on the floor.
I have no coordination I swear....
but she is going to start me on more resistance and using my body as weights.

After that I will start one of her classes and then once a month have another one-on-one.
I still think the majority of the time I will be a walking-elliptical person.
But I am open to try this.
A few months ago I would have never thought I would be sharing this.
But I am so much happier and healthier now.
I am just more open to new things, so it may be for me... or not... but at least I gave it a shot.

If you don't hear from me all next week...
you'll know I'm too sore to type!
So today I leave you with a quote I think is so true...

Back to Normal? Not Quite Yet...

Hello dear friends... Hope your week is going well.
What's going on out here at the lake?
We'll the holidays and four weeks of tennis camp is over.
I am still getting use to being home all the time again.
I have no idea how the days go by so fast.
Or what I have gotten accomplished, but I was busy.
Doing what I have no idea.
Doing lots of gardening and taking picutes I guess.
I love seeing the kittens in my garden shots... this is Punkie.
This has been a cat week... the little grey kitten, Ivy had to have surgery yesterday.
She has a warble in her neck.  If you do not know what that is... good for you.
It was a grub type worm inside her neck... you can imagine it was not pleasant.
$75 later she is camped up in big sisters room recuperating.
If she was not spoiled already, she is plum rotten by now.
Always something... am I the only one that spends way too much money on "free" pets?
Anyway....
It has been hot and humid all this week.
Too hot to walk comfortably, so I am using my elliptical again.
I had gained back two pounds during the holiday weekend.
I blame my hubby, he was off for 4 days and all we did was eat!
So I am back to salads and grilled chicken this week.
One good way to burn the calories is cutting back the garden.
I cut all the butterfly bushes back to about a foot tall..
They will rebloom and not be so huge.
I regret planting them on the hill, but I love the butterflies.
So, they get a major haircut this time of year.
Also most of the spring blooming shrubs were trimmed.
As well as the perennials with seed heads I don't want to spread.
White yarrow was my biggest chore.  It will turn brown if you leave it be.
I feel as hot as its getting I want all the brown I can cut out gone...
Keep the garden looking as fresh as I can in the heat.
My little annuals from seed are starting to bloom this week.
Many were planted late and the cool weather has them a little behind.
But they are welcome as a bit of color and texture here and there.
This year more than any other I have noticed plants have disappeared.
I don't think I have killed them... but they are lost in the jungle of growth.
Little things are either lost of so far back I cannot find them.
I look at older photos of the garden and remember where they should be...
Hopefully I can remember to move them next spring when and if they come back.
I love my groundcovers... and I have not bought mulch this year... but they can overcome some tender treasures when you are not looking.
Years ago I kept all my plant tags and it was amazing all the ones that were gone!
"I remember buying that... where did I plant it?"
But with all these blooms... I am not going to complain too much.
The tough will thrive!
Speaking of... look at the grass popping up in the rocks...
It is a full time job keeping the walks and the driveway weeded.
And as of this week I am watering again.
I pretty much have been leaving it in areas and letting it run.
I then go deadhead daylilies and perennials while it waters a section.
(That is if I dont walk off and forget it.)
Love this picture, one of my favorites I have taken of the house.
It is hard to get it all in one shot.
So what else have I been up to?
Feeding everybody... I can never fix enough food with the girls home.
I make a huge run once a week to the store and could go twice.
It has been hot and they have been inside all day.
I made little sister walk with me and the dog tonight.

I walk a mile and a half almost every evening.
To the highway and back.
The dog loves it.
I would too if it was not so humid.
But it was good girl bonding time.

She starts Middle School this year.
Where has the time gone?

Okay, I need to get off here... my internet is acting up.
Thanks so much for stopping by and sign up to be a follower if you haven't done that yet!

It's Warming Up... QUICKLY!

Wow, Indiana Summer is here for sure!
It even looks hot in my pictures today....
Hot...Humid... Scorching to my garden.
So after a long lazy few weeks of regular rains...
I am back to dragging the hose around.
It's amazing how quick the garden dries out when it gets into the 90s.
I almost let a few containers get too dry.  Hopefully they will pop back up.
But one good thing is the lake is warming up.
So as soon as I am done watering....
I can take a swim of an evening.
If you can't tell... that is my idea of a perfect day of gardening.
But a nice afternoon rain shower to enjoy from the porch swing
comes in as a close second!

Thanks so much for stopping by and please consider following!

My Goal For This Week...

My goal for this week is simple...
It is to slow down...
Stay home...
Enjoy the sunshine and all that is blooming...
To relax... and soak up all that is summer.
To spend some time on the porch swing...
And to stop and smell the flowers.
Won't you join me?
