My hostas are sure looking like fall.  This container has done so well this year.  Hoping the evergreen makes it all winter there.

Here you can see all the purple moss verbena blooms up the front walk…  Scooby our Great Dane….

And Charlie our newest tomcat.  He is very independent, but slowly making up to me.  All the animals learn the treaties come from the “Momma” around here!  Been busy around the lake.  We camped this weekend and I worked a couple days last week.  I sub at the girls schools and usually work 2-3 days per week.  I enjoy it and I have some flexibility with my days.

The garden is very dry.  To be quite honest, I got busy with life as was not watering as much as I did.  I have some damage in a couple plants, hoping they come back.  We had been getting some rain, but it is horrible dry.  Blooms are holding on…but it really looks like fall here.

Hoping we have some good color in the leaves.  Fall is a favorite time for me out here with all the woods at our backdoor.

Thanks so much for visiting….Brooke

Trash To Treasure…. Vintage Repurposed Dangle Bracelets

IMG_0843

I just love old floral looking pieces…. this was a very long necklace that had many missing pieces…

IMG_0840

To me, it needed to be a bracelet.   I reused the existing chain and latch, but made the beads all fit together.  I think I will be wearing this one often, it will match anything.

IMG_0841

I just love all the detail… I am guessing this was from the 60’s…. I of course found it at a yard sale.

IMG_0837

Here is another bracelet I did the same way.  I really like the double chain and the color of the beads.

IMG_0838

These are so much fun to wear.  And I make mine slightly oversized so it is comfortable and you can see it under a jacket.

Just dropping in to share some pictures of the rose garden taken this week.  Many of the ones in bloom are my old fashioned looking ramblers.  They can take the heat and look a bit messy and still be beautiful.  I am amazed at how well they are blooming still.  Other things in the garden are slowing down… but the roses are still going strong.

Back to work at the school subbing  this week, nice to see all the kids again.   It was horrible hot yesterday, but hoping to get a bit done outside today.   Thinking of redoing my wildflower bed, hubby dug up 5 new large boulders with a backhoe last weekend.  We placed them in the long wildflower bed.  I know we covered up a ton of plants, but when they come at you with 5 ft long boulders you just let them put them where they fall.  I figure a few lost wildflowers wont be noticed… and the rocks are forever.  It now makes me want to add some grasses and evergreens out there like the driveway beds.   I am hoping to find a few on sale in a few weeks.

Garden Update…

Well it is the 4th week of August, it is time for a garden update.  I cannot believe I am still taking as many pictures as I am.  I went back over last years photos and I have much more blooming this year.  I think in part this is because of all the annuals I did from seed late last fall and early spring.  But although it has been hot, we have had some decent rain this summer.  I am so thankful for that.  My heart goes out to all the gardeners in drought watching their trees and shrubs die.  If I could I would send it your way friends.
I have many more pictures to share, but I will save them for another post.  This is a quick walk around the house for you…. join me in the gardens for a bit.

Here is a peek of the new rose garden.  All this was planted in March of this year.  I have more pictures to share of the roses.  This has been my greatest joy in gardening… the roses are my favorite.   I simply cannot believe how fantastic it is to have them blooming non-stop all summer.  There are 35 roses in this area, at least 10 are in bloom at all times.

Thanks so much for joining me, please consider adding my site to your reading list so we can visit again….Brooke

Trash to Treasure --- Repurposed Gold and Turquoise Updated Vintage Necklace

Today on Trash to Treasure we are taking a inexpensive piece of costume jewelry and repurposing it with vintage necklace pieces and jewels….

IMG_0831

Here it the before necklace, it is nice, but nothing extraordinary.  I have worn it a few times, but it seemed to be too light to match the aqua colored shirts in my wardrobe.

IMG_0830

Here is the broken vintage necklace I found at a yard sale.  It is pretty, but again… not really a keeper.

IMG_0835

I had been looking for a good project for these glass crystals… they are a beautiful peacock blue-green.

IMG_0844

So I started by adding them to the gold necklace every third bead.  Instantly much better…

IMG_0850

The next part was tricky…. getting the correct lengths for the chains.  I ended up adding three more glass beads to make the pendant hang lower.  I think it brings it all together.

IMG_0848

Here is the finished necklace… It is a blurry picture, but you can see it hangs nicely.  It can now go with sage green, taupe, turquoise and blues…  I think I will be wearing it much more often now.

Thanks for stopping by!
