Saturday was Mamaw’s Birthday. But lots of things have been going on, so we are having a party for her today. And you can’t have a party without a cake. And we LOVE cake around here!
But today we are going to make a Tie-Dye Cake…. with a white cake mix base.
Mmmmm…. there is no better smell than cake batter!
Step one is to find some helpers. These two are ready!
I have poured half of the batter into two cake pans.
And the other half into six little cups.
Then we added about 4 drops of food coloring to each cup.
This was a really fun part seeing what colors we could make.
One of our cups got too dark and looked brown. We had to eat that one…lol…. but 5 looked really pretty…. orange, blue, pink, yellow and green.
Now you let the kids go wild…. adding drops to their cakes.
Little sister swirled hers.
Big sister was a little more careful.
We loved how they looked when we were done.
We noticed the yellow doesn't show up as much, but the pink, green and blue did fantastic.
Next we iced them with cool whip topping. It was fun to decorate them.
I put some wax paper under the cake for a cleaner look when we were done.
We think Mamaw will love her “Hip-Cool-Tie-Dye Cake” Don’t you?
I think this would work wonderful with cupcakes too. We’ll have to try that next.
We’ll I have to get off here, we will be having grilled hamburgers and all the fixings tonight.
It is beautiful out here at the lake, there has been fireworks the last two nights.
We have the windows open and have been outside all weekend. Beautiful weather.
Have a great holiday with your families and friends!
